Since some churchgoers may not realize that they’ve lost sight of Jesus, my book discusses potential obstacles to spiritual development. So, if your faith has stagnated, what’s next?

Commitment to one of the resources below will contribute to spiritual growth. But none of them will make as big an impact as your own conviction that you need to become more like Jesus.

Tame Your Thoughts Bible Study Guide, Max Lucado, 2025. Suite of publications. “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts” (Proverbs 4:23 GNT). This quote shapes this book’s biblical approach. Video.

Practicing the Way, John Mark Comer, 2024. Suite of publications. Website self-assessment of 38 questions. Crowd-sourced funding offers resources without charge. Companion guide: 8 lesson primer on spiritual formation. Video.

Believe: Living the Story of the Bible to Become Like Jesus, Randy Frazee, 2015. Divided into 3 areas: Think, Act, & Be (Like Jesus), Scripture & commentary combine to define deeper discipleship.

The Great Omission: Reclaiming Jesus’s Essential Teachings on Discipleship, Dallas Willard, 2006. My personal favorite from a spiritual giant. Willard points the way for churchgoers to become Christ-followers.

As with any resource, weigh and discern what you read in the tools recommended above.  Consider what is worth applying, what is most likely to have the greatest personal impact.

Please note that Why Aren’t Christians More Like Jesus? contains about 300 bible references. Since many are not quoted in the text, Kindle users can use the “Search the Web” option to get a full reading of the passage cited by book, chapter, and verses along with its broader context.
